Magnificent Maori

Kia ora,

This week in Maori we were learning about the place names for famous city’s in New Zealand. We learnt about the North and the South Island names. Our create task was to create a diagram of New Zealand on Google Drawings. We had to get an image of New Zealand and then we had to label 5 place names on the South and North Island in Maori and place them in the correct places. The last thing that we had to do was add in a couple to a few well known land marks for our chosen New Zealand cities.

I chose to do Wellington, Auckland, Palmerston North, Gisborne, New Plymouth, Nelson, Stewart Island, Dunedin, Christchurch and Greymouth. The landmarks I chose to do were: The centre of NZ, Fanfair, Larnach Castle, Auckland Sky Tower, and Palmerston North Clock Tower. Here is my work.

What is your favourite city in NZ, why?

What is your favourite landmark from NZ, why?

Where in NZ do you live, what landmark do you live near and see most?

Perfect Peer Review

Hello,

This week in writing we finished our picture books. We did these on Book creator. I made my picture on the Canva AI generator though. Our task was to do a peer review on a partners book. We had to fill in a template about how we thought their picture book worked up. I did a peer review on Kiriana’s Book called Boots saves Christmas. I really enjoyed reading her book.

It was about a cat called Boots going on a wild goose chase to find Santa and pulling his owner Grace along with him. Here is my review.

Have you ever made a picture book, what was it called?

Have you ever used the Canva AI generator, if so what did you create?

What did you learn from my post?

Amazing Advent

Kia ora,

This week in R.E we started our unit on Advent. Advent is the waiting period leading up to Christmas ( The birth of Jesus ). We had to do two tasks this week for Advent. The first task was to fill in a table about what we already know about Advent and then we will fill in the other side about what we learnt about Advent. Here it is.

Our second task was to create an Advent Calender with one nice thing we can do for someone else each day. Here it is.

What did you learn from my blog?

What do you now know about Advent?

Glorious Gospel

Hi,

Every week we read the Gospel for that specific week and then we reflect on it. This week the Gospel was talking about the end of the world and what will happen when it does. I though that the main message in this Gospel was to be alert and to be ready for when God comes to you. The Gospel was talking about the end of the world but really I think that it was talking about death and when your time on this earth is gone. Here is this weeks Gospel:

GOSPEL Mark 13:24-32
Jesus said to his disciples: “In those days, right after that time of suffering, ‘The sun will become dark, and the moon will no longer shine. The stars will fall, and the powers in the sky will be shaken.’ Then the Son of Man will be seen coming in the clouds with great power and glory. He will send his angels to gather his chosen ones from all over the earth. Learn a lesson from a fig tree. When its branches sprout and start putting out leaves, you know summer is near. So when you see all these things happening, you will know that the time has almost come. You can be sure that some of the people living today will still be alive when all this happens. The sky and the earth will not last forever, but my words will. No-one knows the day or the time. The angels in heaven don’t know, and the Son himself doesn’t know. Only the Father knows.”

We then had to answer this weeks questions about the Gospel in our digital Gospel journals. Here is my Gospel Journal. The questions that I answered this week are on the last slide only.

What did you think this weeks Gospel meant?

Fabulous Book Review

Kia ora,

This week in Reading seeing as everyone was finished off their book: The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas we wrapped it up with our final create this week. I really liked reading this book and following along the story. There were multiple ways that we could choose to read this book from. We could: listen to an audio book, read a digital copy or we could just read a paper back good old original book.

Our create task though was to write a book review for the Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. We had to write this review pretending to be part of the rotten tomatoes.  We had to add 2 things we did not like about it, something that surprised us and then 3 things that we liked about the book and how the author wrote it. Here is my create task.

What do you think about my post?

Would you ever read this book, why?

Narritive writing

Kia ora,

This week in writing we have been planning our narritive writing. Our over all goal is to make a picture book and present it to the younger kids in our school. Firstly we had to make up our characters and think of our story line.

We then had to make them on Canva on an AI generator to see what they were going to look like in our book. Here are my Characters.

Our second task was to make a plan from our story. We had a template that we had to fill out. We needed to think of the problems, resolutions and overall theme of our story. Here is my plan.

Have you ever written a picture book?

If so what was it about?

The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas

Hello,

This term so far we have been doing Novel Studies. We got to choose which novel to study. There was: Holes, The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief , The Eagle in the snow and The Book thief.  I chose to study the Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. Each week we had to read up to a certain point in the book and answer questions about each chapter that we read. We then also had to complete a create task each week. I really enjoyed reading the Boy in the Striped Pyjamas, I found the ending quite sad but I would still definitely recommend this book to a friend to read.

Our first task was to create a set of slides and then go onto Canva and make the main characters on AI generator. We then had to answer all of our comprehension questions from our chapters on this slide. Here is my slideshow.

Our create task for the first week we started reading this book was to write a journal entry as Bruno about what it was like for him in a chapter of your choice. I chose to do it on Chapter 5. Here is my journal entry.

Our create task for the second week was to create a new book cover for our book. We had to include a blurb on the back and at least one picture on the front. Here is my book cover.

Our create task for the 3rd week of reading our book was to draw a picture of a charcter of your choice ( I chose Bruno ) and then describe them. Here is my drawing.

For the last week of reading our book our create task was to either write a letter to Gretel as Bruno explaining all about Shmuel and all about them or to write a letter as Bruno to Luitenant Kotler all about why he does not like him and how he treats him and Pavel. I chose to do the first option. Here is my letter.

Gender Equality at the Olympics

Hello,

Over the course of the past month in PBL and Literacy we have been creating iMovies or Podcasts about specific problems in the Olympic realm. Some of those problems being: Gender Equality, Racism, Doping and Cost & Debt. We had to right a script, create a storyboard and sort out the scenes and most importantly film/record. I chose to do an iMovie on Gender Equality at the Olympics.

The iMovie/podcast had to be 2-5 mins long. I chose do an iMovie about Gender Equality with Indi my buddy.

Here is my iMovie. I hope you like it.

Have you ever made an iMovie before?

Unity & Diversity

Kia ora,

This week in PBL and Reading we have been learning about the history of racism. We learnt about Jesse Owens, Tommie Smith & John Carlo. These 3 athletes have all been victims of racism. I learnt that it is very important to stand up for what we think is right especially when it comes to racism and right or countries. Athletes of all colours should be respected and treated equally. The Olympics in the past athletes of different colours have not been respected. Fairness is when people play by the rules and do not cheat to get their own way.

Our task was to research one of the athletes and fill in a table about them and how they were shown racism against them. I chose to research Jesse Owens. Jesse Owens was an Olympic sprinter and Long jumper, he is very successful, at just the 1936 Olympic games he won 4 gold medals. I learnt that at the medal ceremony for the Olympics in 1936, Hitler did not even clap for Jesse let alone shake his hand.

Here is my create task. I hope you like it.

Do you stand up against racism?

Do you think that Jesse Owens was treated fairly at the 1936 Olympic Games? Why or why not?

Marvellous Maths

Hello,

For the past few weeks in maths we have been doing a unit on Geometry. Geometry is learning all about shapes, their properties such as their sides, names and angles. We use protractors and rulers in our classes to help use figure out the angles of shapes. Our create task in maths this week was to use a website called nrich to create shapes by connecting the 8 dots on a circle. We then had to transfer our creations onto a Google drawing and explain out shapes and its properties.

Here is my create task. I hope you like it.

What is your favourite shape? Why?

Have you ever used a protractor before?
